Julie Andrews’ mother and step father had a performing career, and when Julie was still a child, she was giving singing, dancing and acting lessons at a performing arts school. She was even performing small theatre roles from the age of just 10, and when she was 12 years old she had her professional debut at a London theatre.
Julie Andrews was a child star and extremely well known in the 1940s and 1950s for her singing talent. She sang for King George VI and his family, performed alongside some of the best known performers of the day, and performed in many famous London theatres in lead roles, such as Cinderella.
Her most famous roles were filmed in the 1960s, when she was most famous. She is still remembered for these roles today, and even the youngest movie watchers can recognise her face. She starred as Mary Poppins in the movie of the same name, and of course in the musical the Sound of Music.
Julie Andrews is still acting today, and has appeared in many TV shows and movies in the last 10 years, including in a children’s TV series, the popular teenage girl’s movie, the Princess Diaries and she has also put her voice to various animated movies, including Shrek.
